Amy Friend is best known for her use of red thread and her realistic depictions of birds in precarious situations. Primarily using graphite and acrylic, Friend’s drawings delve into the complexities of life, the world around her and the way the two fit together, while most importantly searching for balance between the two. The compositions of her work combined with the vivid red thread create a graceful struggle and an uncertain balance. Evoking a pleasure in the discomfort and a need for the tension.
Friend received her B.F.A. from the Art Academy of Cincinnati in 2003 and studied at the Studio Arts Center in Florence, Italy. Subsequently, Friend relocated to North Carolina to focus on her artwork.
