FESTIVAL IN THE PARK TO OFFER EXPANDED FOOD AND BEVERAGE OPTIONS IN SEPTEMBER
58th annual event to include Beer and Wine sales for first time in Festival history
CHARLOTTE (August 18, 2022) — Festival in the Park (www.FESTIVALinthePARK.org ) returns for its 58th year in Freedom Park September 16th through 18th with nearly 200 artists, four performance stages and a greater variety of food and beverage options – including beer gardens, with wine and alcoholic seltzer options.
The dates for the 2022 Festival, which is offered at no admission cost to the public, are one week earlier than normal as to not overlap with the 2022 President’s Cup.
“We rely on our law enforcement community to keep our event safe” said Mark Boone, Festival board president. “Our Board of Directors wanted to ensure our patrons and partners can focus on the prestigious event at Quail Hollow while also taking part in our fun, family-friendly tradition at Freedom Park.”
Saturday’s musical performances at the Freedom Park band shell include The Ultimate Eagles Tribute Band – On The Border, a nationally-known rock group based in Charlotte. Other Main Stage performances during the Festival will feature the R&B stylings of Nitara Reaves and Twin Nation, an identical twin dance team.
Additional weekend entertainment will highlight the Charlotte Folk Society, Actors Theater of Charlotte, youth performers and aerial dance by Caroline Calouche and Company. Amusement rides and attractions for all ages will be available in the Festival’s Family Fun Zone.
Limited parking is available for $10 at Atrium Health Myers Park, located directly across from the Freedom Park entrance in the 1900 block of East Boulevard. Patrons are also encouraged to consider a ride share service, such as Uber or Lyft, with recommended drop off points at 2435 Cumberland Avenue or 1600 Princeton Avenue.
Private donors, known as “Friends of the Festival”, help cover the Festival’s cost of renting Freedom Park from Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation – as well as the hiring of off-duty Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers, Medics and Charlotte firefighters to ensure public safety.
Named one of the nation’s top festivals in 2022 by Sunshine Artist Magazine, the Festival boasts an outdoor open-air amphitheater unrivaled in the area. The Festival has also been honored as Best Charlotte Festival by
Charlotte Magazine.
Festival in the Park is a recipient of support from the Infusion Fund (www.InfusionFund.org), a partnership between the City of Charlotte, Foundation For The Carolinas and generous donors to support the arts and cultural sector.
This project was made possible, in part, with funding from the Arts & Science Council; the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources; and the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes that a great nation deserves great art.
