Tanya Murphy

Joose Studios, Charlotte, NC

Tanya Murphy is a Multi-disciplinary Artist based in Charlotte, North Carolina whose work utilizes her various training in photography, painting, printmaking and collage.

Her art inspirations are entangled in the ancient Wabi-Sabi philosophy; seeing and embracing beauty in the imperfect, impermanent, the passing of time, the old, forgotten, unnoticed life cycles in nature, nostalgic things and cultural history that is long under-appreciated. Tanya enjoys traveling nationally to photograph historic aged houses, shacks, trees, beached driftwoods and ancient rock formations before creating impressionistic works in her studio. Her impressionist artworks expose her sense of universal, spiritual, and ancestral connections.

Tanya garnered gallery attention with her early landscape photographs and haunting textural collagraphs that suggest the workings of memory based on her ancestral homestead in South Carolina. She holds a BFA degree from Tyler School of Art, Philadelphia, PA. She has had many commissions, honors and exhibitions; her works are in many public and private collections.

Tanya Murphy has served the vast art community as Curator, Instructor, Gallery Director and Writer. She is a member of the Charlotte Art League and The Light Factory, Charlotte, NC and the National Conference of Artists, Detroit, MI Chapter.
