Earth, Fire & Spirit Pottery, Lexington, VA
Daniel and I create ceramic pieces are defined directly by our love for organic objects. Natural forms and creatures have always been integrated into our work. In the past we have focused on oceanic life forms, which will always have a place in our works. Our current works explore tree forms.
Daniel And I strive to create utilitarian pots for every day use, forms that focus primarily on functionality and the intimacy gained through personal use. We work with high fire stoneware clay, changing clays in response to the intended glaze finish for each piece. All works are bisque fired to cone 04 (1915°F) in an electric kiln and glaze fired to cone 10 (2355°F) in a natural gas downdraft reduction kiln. We work primarily within a family of glazes called Rutile, as well as copper red varieties. The under glaze decoration technique We apply involves slip trail and oxide based paint.
