Shibui Silks, Charlotte, NC
Beth Resler Walters — Shibui — originally was an active journalist, writer and communications pro when she she did her first fabric-painting class. But it was when she did a specialized silk-painting class at John C. Campbell Folks School in far western N.C. that her real dance with silk and dyes began. “And I consider it a dance, because the silk and the colors have their own mind. and you are leading in the dance only part of the time!” she says. While most of her works are wearables, such as scarves and simple tops, there are owners of Shibui Silks who hang them rather than wear them — or who do both with their silks!
