Christopher Lawing

The Charlotte Signs Project, Charlotte, NC

As a native Charlottean who still calls his city home, Christopher Lawing has been photographing, documenting, and preserving the Queen City’s unique and historical signage on both film and digital formats since 2010. “The Charlotte Signs Project” began initially to showcase the city’s rich history, however, it has evolved into a comprehensive photography collection spanning a variety of communities and neighborhoods across Charlotte, thus doing just that and more.

Christopher was raised in a creativity-rich family environment, where he was encouraged, supported, and schooled in techniques across many mediums. At Myers Park High School, armed with his uncle’s Nikon FM SLR film camera, and inspired by the miles of his grandfather’s 16mm home movie film, he fell in love with photography and its ability to tell stories and has been snapping pictures ever since.

At North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC, from where he recently graduated, Christopher polished his technique of storytelling. He is now is proud to share his photography and project with you, the community.

Christopher’s talents and work have been exhibited locally ranging from the Levine Museum of the New South, Festival In The Park, and Matthews ArtFest, to places farther away such as National Scout Jamborees and Industrial Designers Society of America conferences. His photography has appeared in The Charlotte Observer as well as PARADE Magazine.

Drop by Christopher’s booth in order to not only witness these images which tell a collective story, but to also speak with him about his project, unique perspective, and vision. He would love to meet you.
