Hallie Bailey, Botanie
Charlotte, NC
Botanie was founded by Hallie Manning in February 2022. After a year of creating custom vessels in a retail shop, Hallie decided to start her own business selling handcrafted concrete pieces. As a mother of two, one of her favorite parts of working in concrete is getting to create outside in her back yard as her children play nearby. While she is self-taught in concrete work, Hallie took many studio art classes at the University of Memphis while majoring in Art History.
Her current concrete work focus on color and texture. Hallie achieves vibrant colors due to untraditional dying techniques. The texture in her work comes from applying a thin layer of concrete by hand to the mold, letting it dry, and continuing to layer until the final color is poured. Finally, each piece is waxed and hand polished similarly to concrete sculptures.
Hallie’s greatest inspiration comes from nature, and especially plants. Therefore, it made sense for Botanie to offer hand chosen house plants to compliment select vessels. Many times, a concrete piece is created for a specific plant. Aside, from nature, Hallie is also inspired by paintings and woodblock prints from her background in art history..
Hallie is from Memphis, Tn. She and her family moved to Charlotte in 2018. She creates each Botanie piece in the backyard of her Sedgefield home.
