Hannah Martin has been a helicopter mechanic in the Marine Corps, a Surface Warfare Officer in the US Navy, and a theatrical stage manager in Portland, Oregon and New York City. She and her spouse currently live in Grayson County on a small homestead-style farm, where Hannah makes pottery in their basement studio.
The first time I sat at the potter’s wheel, it fit. Motion and circular rhythm, the texture of earth beneath my fingers, all a calming dance. The shapes and forms I create are, as a result, an extension of that dance with dirt. My pottery is reflective of the natural world around me, whether the earthy textures of the Mojave Desert of my childhood or the blues of the mountains outside my window today.
