Hans Petersen Art, LLC, Rock Hill, SC
Hans Petersen is a Danish international artist. He attended the Royal Danish Academy of Art, in Copenhagen to study architecture but his love for abstract expressionism intensified with inspiration from the mid-20th century CoBrA movement, especially Danish artist Asgar Jorn. To this day the basic CoBrA principles of complete freedom of color and form influence Hans’ bold and colorful subject matter that ranges from unconventional women to dynamic abstract art forms.
Hans began his professional life as a graphic designer, moving to NYC in 1976 where he became a principal and creative director for a successful design firm. He relocated to Charlotte, NC in 1991 where is innovative graphic design style distinguished the International Home Furnishings Center’s promotional material for over 15 years. As graphic design became digital Hans chose to continue expressing his creative visions through his hands, and in 2005 embarked on a full-time career as a painter.
True to his CoBrA roots, Hans’ work is not limited to a single signature style. Rather he prefers working in series that have a continuity of his vision. The Pure Joy series interprets the 1960’s graphic and color vibe through a feminine lens. His work is represented by galleries in New York, New Jersey, Florida and Wisconsin.
Artist Statement: Painting with impact brings me pleasure. I strive to infuse distinctive color, energy and character into my work to achieve excitement for myself and others. If it goes unnoticed, it simply wasn’t worth (while) painting.
