Jon Caneda is what is known as an “autodidact” and he thanks God for that daily. While much of his artistic talent is inherited, his main skill is his nonstop drive to learn from whatever muse is calling him at the time, which is always. Growing up in a small South Carolina town, sports were a big influence through much of his life, but art and music have been with him since he was a young child. Drawing and yo-yoing were his long time side hobbies and live music was his main career field for a decade. During the Covid pandemic, when all live music was delayed indefinitely, he dove into drawing on an endless daily practice routine. During early 2023 a sketch he drew at the request of a stranger gave him the idea to actually turn his hobby into a business. Since the summer of 2023, he has been a vendor in over 50 art markets and events while expanding his art to different mediums and themes. Colored pencils have become his main vehicle, but he often branches into hand drawing onto wood for pyrography as an extension of his drawing craft. He is constantly trying to find ways to combine his strengths and interests in different fields to create something new, while his biggest challenge is striving for excellence rather than perfection. At home, he is a dedicated husband and father, and has a bunch of cute critters.
